CHINA may soon tighten controls on its export of the rare-earth metals that are essential for assorted modern technologies - from smartphones to wind turbines - meaning that the rest of the world needs to increase production to meet demand, an expert has said.
Despite their name, the rare-earth elements are actually not that rare, and can be found in very low concentrations in most massive rock formations across the globe.
