Matthew Manuel would like nothing more than to build on the recent success of Nova Scotia curling teams. He was thrilled to watch Nova Scotia's Sophie ...
Northern Ontario, 10 a.m. and Newfoundland and Labrador, 3 p.m.Sunday:Nova Scotia is in Pool A with Matt Dunstone , Kevin Koe , Reid Carruthers , Kelly Knapp , Darren Moulding , Nathan Young , Jamie Koe and Jake Higgs .
Manuel is thankful for a schedule that allows his team to open play on Saturday and gives them a day to process everything that is the Brier. Manuel said getting through a difficult Nova Scotia Tankard helped prepare the team for the Brier. They had to beat Brier-veteran Paul Flemming and the clubmate Owen Purcell, who was fresh off a strong run at the World University Games, twice each. The rink also had to navigate its way through a 5-4 final victory against Purcell with a three-player lineup due to the illness of Jeff Meagher.
"We like to play aggressively, with a lot of rocks in play," said Manuel."I would say that we play with a little bit of fearlessness sometimes. We're very confident that if we get ourselves in a little bit of trouble, we have the shots in our back pockets to bail ourselves out. At the end of the day, we are going to have to take some risks against these top teams, who are going to put a lot of pressure on us. We are fully ready for it.
