Crews work on power lines along Coxheath Road on Saturday . NICOLE SULLIVAN / CAPE BRETON POSTSYDNEY, N.S. — Less than 9,000 people are still without power on Cape Breton Island as Nova Scotia Power continues restoration after hurricane force Fiona's devastation.

According to the Nova Scotia Power outage map summary of sites, as of 6 p.m. Saturday there were 8,738 people in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality still without service; down from 22,209 customers powerless Friday at 4 p.m. Nova Scotia Power sent a written update Saturday afternoon in which they said the restoration efforts have required heavy equipment and cranes to move downed trees because they are so large.

Multiple crews are required to complete restoration like this and Nova Scotia Power is asking people to keep a safe distance from those working in the fields.
