Nottingham Forest do not have to release players for the Olympic Games in Paris
Chris Wood will not be going to the Olympic Games after Nottingham Forest chose not to release the striker for the showpiece event in Paris.
The 32-year-old is his country’s captain, but due to the fact the Games fall outside the official FIFA international window Forest are under no obligation to release him. The press in New Zealand believe Wood would have been in the running to skipper the side as one of three over-age players in the under-23 event.READ MORE: Sports minister makes Nuno remark as he speaks out on Saudi deal
He isn’t the only Forest player to miss out, with new signing Marko Stamenic also told he will not be released and will instead spend his time getting ready for his first season on loan at Olympiacos – having signed for the Reds from Red Star Belgrade. Staminec is 22-years-old so would not have been an over-age player.
