For the second straight week, Houston couldn’t protect a fourth-quarter lead as the Broncos scored the game’s final 10 points for a 16-9 victory Sunday afternoon at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver.
On the first play of the final frame, the Broncos were facing third-and-16 at their own 32 but Wilson found Courtland Sutton wide open after a Texans coverage breakdown for a back-breaking 35-yard gain. Denver then took the ball and drove 54 yards in 12 plays, with Brandon McManus’ 50-yard field goal capping the drive and putting the Broncos up 16-9 with 3:36 left.
They then turned the ball over on downs and again after getting the ball deep in their own territory in the final minute, again failed to move the ball, giving the embattled Hackett/Wilson duo their first win in Denver.The last, a 24-yarder with 8:33 left in the third quarter, came one play after Cooks dropped what would’ve been a touchdown, albeit on a pass that was not well-thrown.
