On 26 June 2020, President Cyril Ramaphosa was forced to apologise to the ANC's deployment committee for appointing Presidential State-Owned Enterprises Council members without consulting and involving it.

On 20 January 2020, the committee scolded Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan for snubbing it when appointing senior executives to state-owned enterprises . A strongly worded but undated letter from the office of the ANC's secretary-general reminded"all deployed comrades" that the office of the party's deputy secretary-general should be informed of all directors general, board chairpersons, chief executives of parastatals, and all board members of SOEs' vacancies before they are advertised.
