Northern and Western were scoreless after the first period with the New Brunswick champion Flames outshooting the Nova Scotia provincial champion 11-9. Selects head coach Craig Clarke was proud of his teams effort, noting the sacrifice each of the players give to play hockey at an elite level. "The players are so great to us as coaches and their families are so great, so it's just nice when people do the right things and they work hard and they get rewarded for that, it doesn't always happen in this world so I'm happy for them."
