Since 2015 they have rescued over 16,000 people including families and children

A Northern Irish charity is heading back to sea in late January to carry out search and rescue operations in the Central Mediterranean.

Back in November 2015, Jude Bennet and Joby were deeply moved by reports from the Mediterranean depicting the horrendous situation on Europe’s Southern shores. Refugee Rescue was later forced to suspend operations in the North Shore of Lesbos due to the deteriorating security and political situation in the area.

With their fast rescue boat Mo Chara , Refugee Rescue launch from the ship to bring people safely on board. A male refugee who was rescued last year said: “In Libya I’ve been robbed at gunpoint, shot at, taken advantage of… some have been sent to prison, kidnapped or sold.
