The change comes into effect from April 6
More than a million workers across Greater Manchester are set to see a major change in their pay packet from this week, as National Insurance contributions are slashed to eight per cent - worth around £793 to the average worker each year.
However, workers struggling with the cost of living will still notice a significant difference in their payslips from April 6. According to the Government, this year-on-year change from paying 12 per cent National Insurance to eight per cent will boost the average pay packet by around £66 a month, while inflation falls to its lowest level in two years, last week reaching 3.4 per cent.
Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt said: “The tax cuts coming into force this week show that our economic plan is working, putting £793 a year back into the pockets of working people across the North West.
