North West ANC risks being held in contempt of court
The Mahikeng High Court had ordered that the provincial ANC reinstate councillor candidates in the Madibeng Local Municipality in Brits who had been irregularly removed from the party list submitted to the Electoral Commission of SA ahead of last month’s local government elections.
The party officials expected to comply with the October 20 ruling – including interim provincial committee coordinator Hlomani Chauke; interim regional coordinator in Bojanala, Rustenburg, and Madibeng mayor Douglas Maimane; and ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte – could face imprisonment if the court order is not executed by January 20.Subscribe to News24 for just R75 per month to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism.
