THUNDER BAY – An apartment in the Academy area sustained heavy smoke damage, but avoided significant structural damage, after firefighters doused a fire on Sherrington Drive on Friday evening.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue was called to a 48-unit apartment on the short street, off of Fulton Boulevard, around 6 p.m. A second alarm was called, with a total of six pumper trucks, an aerial ladder, and a command unit ultimately responding.
