🔴North East Ambulance service declares critical incident for second time in nine days
Patient transport services for appointments are only operating for essential journeys such as dialysis, chemotherapy, oncology and heart care during the critical incident.
The reduced service will allow NEAS to redeploy these crews to support other emergency patients and hospitals with discharges. “The public should only call 999 in a life-threatening emergency. For all other patients, we are urging them to use www.111.nhs.uk, speak to their GP or pharmacist,” Mr Woodhouse said.“We know patients will be experiencing longer waits for an ambulance – please only call back if your condition worsens or to cancel if it is no longer required.
The NEAS said it has been operating at its highest level of alert status over the Christmas break, keeping in place many of the actions from the previous critical incident declaration.ahead of strikes by NHS staff and additional demand over the Christmas period.
