Madrano is alleged to have groomed and sexually exploited the girl for more than a year before “escalating his conduct” on three separate visits to Canada, Chernick told the court. On the third trip, Madrano is alleged to have abducted the girl, changed her clothes and hair to hide her appearance, and hid her in the trunk of his car, which he used to transport the girl back to the U.S. before taking her to another hotel room, where he continued to sexually abuse her and threatened her life, Chernick said.Article content
The accused’s lawyer requested a jury trial for his client, who remains in custody pending the outcome of a detention hearing scheduled for Wednesday, when statements from parents of the Edmonton victim will be read in court.
