Friday’s decision effectively prevents Russia from taking part in the World Cup qualifying play-offs scheduled for later this month as no hearing has been scheduled yet. Russia was scheduled to play Poland in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday

Earlier this week, the CAS upheld Uefa’s ban of Russian teams taking part in its competitions. Last month, Fifa and Uefa suspended Russia’s national teams and clubs from international football until further notice due to the country’s invasion of Ukraine.
“Both presidents [of the soccer bodies] hope that the situation in Ukraine will improve significantly and rapidly so that football can again be a vector for unity and peace among people,” Uefa said.
