City maintained roads and sidewalks are considered to be in a 'state of repair' until further notice

Heavy snowfall has prompted the City of Sault Ste. Marie to declare a significant weather event, warning motorists that travel may be hazardous.

Motorists are asked to not park on city streets during the day in order to facilitate snow removal. Pedestrians and drivers are urged to use caution, and City Transit customers may experience bus delays. As crew work to clear the snow, city maintained roads and sidewalks are considered to be in a “state of repair” until further notice, says a news release issued by the city.

"Public Works crews are working diligently during the event, but it may take longer than normal to ensure public safety and that the roadways, sidewalks, and transit bus stops meet normal maintenance standards," the release says. "Public Works continues to monitor the weather, patrol the roadways, and deploy all available crews to address any snow and ice accumulation."

The city parking by-law remains in effect; parking in city streets is not permitted during the winter months between midnight and 6 a.m.
