In just about every game this season, there was a lingering feeling that running back MarShawn Lloyd could’ve gotten just amore carries.
But in a surprise, Lloyd trotted out of the tunnel in street clothes for pre-game warmups on Saturday, sporting an obvious frown in a bad sign for USC: Trojans down their best and most consistent back, returner Austin Jones’ impact limited for much of this season, rest of the room ripe with question marks.
One of them, sophomore Raleek Brown, gave Lloyd a dap as the back broke into pre-game drills. And Brown, it seemed, stood to benefit the most from Lloyd’s absence; a difference-maker as a freshman who’d played almost zero snaps in 2023 amid a redshirt season, a position change from receiver to running back dropping him in USC’s offensive hierarchy.
