A fire broke out at a building on the corner of Main Road and Treurnicht Street in Rayton Park Plaza , Rayton, on Tuesday evening. Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Lindsay Zwelithini Mnguni said firefighters responded to the incident just before 10pm. Upon arrival, they found a shop engulfed in flames, with smoke billowing from the roof where the ceiling had collapsed. Firefighters immediately established an incident command and began firefighting operations.

They deployed specialized equipment, like a positive pressure ventilation unit (PPV), to clear the smoke from the building. The blaze was completely extinguished at approximately 11:51 pm. Mnguni stated that firefighters worked diligently to prevent the fire from spreading and causing significant damage to the entire supermarket building or other structures in the shopping plaza. Thankfully, the incident occurred after hours, and no one was inside the building. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Mnguni urged the public to take precautionary measures during fire-related incidents to ensure the safety of people, animals, and property. He advised against leaving burning charcoal unattended, never leaving children unsupervised near candles or fires, avoiding illegal electrical connections, and using sand or a fire extinguisher to extinguish paraffin fires
