The Nissan Magnite gets a stylish facelift with updated design elements and a new infotainment system. However, its performance and price point might not be enough to overcome the strong competition in the compact SUV segment.
The Nissan Magnite , launched in 2020, has surprisingly become the brand's leading vehicle in South Africa, despite facing stiff competition from a crowded market. While Nissan's local lineup is currently limited to four models, the Magnite stands out with its impressive sales figures, outselling its production sibling, the Renault Kiger, and newer entrants like the Mahindra XUV300 3X0 and Hyundai Exter.
Introduced in late 2022, the facelifted Magnite boasts a refreshed design, featuring new headlamps, a honeycomb grille, a faux skid plate, and repositioned foglights. The rear has also been updated with blacked-out taillights, a revised bumper, and a new skid plate. Complementing the exterior enhancements is a new eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, along with a redesigned seven-inch digital instrument cluster.Top-of-the-range Acenta Plus models come equipped with a two-tone leatherette interior (black and brown), claimed to be heat-resistant. Other premium features include ambient lighting, keyless start/stop, remote engine start, an air purifier, a 360-degree monitor, hill-start assist, and cruise control. Powering the flagship model is a three-cylinder turbocharged 1.0-liter petrol engine, delivering 74kW of power and 152Nm of torque to the front wheels via a CVT transmission. While the engine specifications are promising, the actual performance on the road is somewhat hampered by turbo lag, making acceleration less responsive.
