South African actress Nirvana Nokwe-Mseleku, known for her roles in Outlaws and Red Ink, has opened up about a troubling experience on set, sparking important conversations about consent and personal boundaries in the entertainment industry.
“I am writing to share an experience I had during a recent project on set, involving a violation of my personal boundaries in a scene where the character I was playing was being murdered and raped,” she wrote. The incident took place during a night of filming where professionalism and respect were expected. “The rape could be implied in a close-up; it was rehearsed that he would push me over the car bonnet, lay on my back to whisper in my ear, then come out of the frame, which was on a close-up of my face screaming, and the scene would end there,” Nirvana explained.
