🔴 The death toll from last Wednesday’s shipwreck off the Greek coast stands at 78, but the number is expected to rise as hope of finding the hundreds missing starts to fade
Witness reports suggest there were between 400 to 750 people on the boat when it sank, with Greek government officials saying most were from Egypt, Syria and Pakistan.
The Pakistani government has ordered a high-level inquiry to investigate the human trafficking network thought to be involved, a statement from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s office said. “My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families who lost their loved ones,” Mr Sharif added. “We have already arrested 10 suspects who are part of a human trafficking network that sent these people to Europe,” senior regional police officer, Tahir Mahmood Qureshi, said. “We are hunting for more suspects.”
