Under new rules adopted over the summer, the doors to college football’s free agency season flew open at midnight on the east coast.

So for the next 45 days, underclassmen can enter the portal and be recruited by new programs. It is part of the effort to curb the year-round transfer market by slotting them into specific periods depending on the season of competition. For fall sports, the 45-day window opens the day after championship selections are made. The portal will close Jan. 18. A second 15-day window will run from April 15-30 after spring practices are complete.For Alabama, nine players from the opening-day roster have announced their intention to enter the portal. That includes starting offensive lineman Javion Cohen whoCornerback Khyree Jackson initially announced he was entering the portal back on Nov.
A year ago, 18 Alabama players entered the portal after opening the season on the roster. One, linebacker Jaylen Moody, later removed his name and returned to be a starter as a senior this season.
