The Nation Newspaper NIMC captures 107 million Nigerians in database, partners security agencies to check crimes
), Abisoye Coker-Odusote on Friday, May 10, said about 107.3 million Nigerians have been captured so far in the national identity database with their unique National Identity Numbers .
Speaking at the NIMC headquarters in Abuja during her maiden interaction with newsmen, Odusote, said a unique identity database for all Nigerians would unlock opportunities and harness resources for the growth and development of the country. “We are working on increasing the capacity that we have, we are trying to increase from 100million to 250million, and the process will take us a minimum of 6 months to 9 months. But we are sure we will be there,” Coke-Odusote said.
She said applicants for the card will have to request their NIN through a self-service online portal or the banks, insisting that NIN registration remains free for citizens of the country.
