Al-Sanhaji emphasized Hakimi's crucial role in Morocco's third-place finish at the Paris 2024 tournament and argued that the award should recognize his outstanding achievements. Moroccan media outlets have also criticized CAF for overlooking Hakimi, claiming he was the more deserving candidate.
