Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of Nigeria’s ruling party, APC, has scored majority votes in the presidential election held on Saturday across the country.
Mr Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos State, has so far garnered 8,805,420 votes. He also won the elections in 12 states., is following closely with 12 states won and 6,093,962 votes garnered.Mr Tinubu won the elections in Rivers, Borno, Jigawa, Zamfara, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo and Ogun states.
Apart from scoring the constitutionally required majority votes, Mr Tinubu also appears to have met the second requirement of 25 per cent of the votes in 25 states .Section 134 of the constitution stipulates the requirements a candidate must meet to be declared the winner of a presidential election. Based on the INEC results, Mr Tinubu has a minimum of 25 per cent in 30 states. Atiku has a minimum of 25 per cent in 21 states while Mr Obi scored a minimum of 25 per cent in 17 states.ⓘAs of 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the final collation of results was still ongoing at the national collation centre in Abuja.

Obi Beats Tinubu in Lagos Presidential Poll #NigeriaDecides2023The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) began collating election results yeserday, even as voting continued in some constitutencies which had suffered delays or disruptions on election day (February 25). A coaltion of civic groups appealed for INEC to maintain neutralility and transparency, for police to maintain order and for citizens to remain peaceful as vote counting proceeds. INEC issued a statement expressing "regret" for the "relatively slow and unsteady" performance of the portal used for management of the results process. The statement said the problem was caused by "technocal glitches" and was not "due to any intrusion or sabotage." Premium Times reports that observers deployed by the publication and the Center for Journalism Innovation Development and other civil society groups across Nigeria's 36 States "observed that the poor conduct of INEC officials and ad-hoc staff across polling units contributed to low turnout of voters across in the country".
