The Nigerian media, including PREMUM TIMES, reported in December SSS' futile bid to obtain an order of the Federal High Court in Abuja for the arrest of Mr Emefiele over wide-ranging allegations, including financing of terrorism. In a slew of weighty allegations, the SSS accused him of sabotaging the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, financing terrorism, aiding and abetting terrorism, and committing other economic crimes with effect of undermining Nigeria's national security.
He said the agency needed to apply to the court"for an order enabling the applicant to detain the respondent for sixty days, pending the conclusion of ongoing investigation ..." The SSS alleged that Mr Emefiele funded them with both the resources he raised for his failed presidential bid last year and funds diverted from government coffers.controversially bid for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress
In addition, the agency said Mr Emefiele,"on several occasions in actions prejudicial to the security of the Nigerian state," engaged in"criminal conspiracy to divert government resources into suspicious acts of terrorism financing". Mr Emefiele is also involved in mismanaging of various interventionist funds of the government under his control, according to the SSS.

New Allegations of Terror Funding By Nigeria Central Bank ChiefNew State Security Service (SSS) court documents obtained by Premium Times, alleges that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has been funding "unknown gunmen" and members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), writes Ameh Ejekwonyilo for Premium Times. In December 2022, the governor was accused of making funds available to terrorist groups operating in the country. Justice Hassan of a High Court in Abuja restrained the State Security Service (SSS) from arresting the governor on those charges, Premium Times reports. The judge said that the SSS, "acted wrongfully and illegally in instigating President Muhammadu Buhari against Mr. Godwin Emefiele in respect of the exercise of his statutory duty relating to the issuance of monetary policies and directives in the interest of the national security and economy." The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders' Forum (SMBLF) has also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to put his house in order and save the country from, "repeated, unwarranted national embarrassments." The SMBLF led by Chief Edwin Clark, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Dr. Pogu Bitrus and Ambassador Okey Emuchay, called the actions against Emefiele "disgraceful", wrote Sunday Aborisade and Emameh Gabriel for This Day.
