Looking back at fashion designer and Louis Vuitton women's creative director Nicolas Ghesquière's best work in the pages of Bazaar.
In his 10 years as womenswear creative director at Louis Vuitton, Nicolas Ghesquière has built and populated his own fashion world, with signifiers that feel at once deeply familiar and yet utterly his own. His women wear billowing flower sweaters printed with David Sims photographs, or structured skirts adorned with the largest zippers ever manufactured.
” Ghesquière prefers to say he “builds” his collections, rather than designing them. And he sees his work as collage—a whole much bigger than any of its sundry singular parts. For him, it is not about whether you’ve encountered the visual references before. It’s about whether you recognize the way they make you feel. And everyone from Emma Chamberlain to Cynthia Erivo to the most stylish person you personally know wants that Nicolas Ghesquière feeling.
