Nicola Sturgeon has issued a formal apology to the thousands of families in Scotland affected by forced adoptions, describing it as one of the “worst injustices in our history”
Ms Sturgeon fought back tears as she delivered her statement at Holyrood, where she was watched by victims and campaigners from the public gallery. She said the practice represented “a level of injustice which is hard now for us to comprehend”.
She continued: “As a Government and a Parliament, we can set the record straight. We can acknowledge the terrible wrongs that were done. And we can say with one voice that we are sorry. Ms Sturgeon said that some of the children who were forcibly removed from their parents were abused or mistreated, while others went to “loving homes”.
