In Saban’s mind, that stems from name, image and likeness morphing into an outsourced version of pay-for-play in the sport, largely fueled by collectives that, in some cases, pay players six and seven figures for appearances, social media posts and other modest deliverables.“Name, image and likeness is a good thing for players to be able to make money, but when it turns into pay for play, now you’re getting into a different area,” Saban said.
