The world No. 33 had knee surgery in January and had only played once all year coming into Wimbledon — losing in the first round in Stuttgart last month. Despite his lack of fitness, the Australian was still expected to be one of the biggest challengers to Novak Djokovic, who is looking to win a fifth consecutive Wimbledon and match Roger Federer’s total of eight titles at the event.“I’m really sad to say that I have to withdraw from Wimbledon this year,” Kyrgios said on social media Sunday.
