'Twelve specialist snow blowers are also available to be deployed if required'
As temperatures are expected to plummet this week, the Department for Infrastructure says its winter safety service is "fully operational and ready".
Across Northern Ireland, "wintry showers" and "overnight frosts" are expected later in the week as a flow of northerly wind will start to cause temperatures to dip as a cold front begins to move in. A yellow weather warning for ice will be in place on Thursday for parts of the region. The warning will be in place from midnight on Thursday to around 6pm and the Met Office has warned that disruption is likely due to icey surfaces.
"We have around 74,000 tonnes of salt in stock and in addition over 5,500 salt bins and 58,000 grit piles are also available for use by the public on a self-help basis on selected routes not included on the salting schedule.”
