Castlederg has experienced Northern Ireland’s hottest day of the year with thermometers hitting 24.5C on Tuesday.Temperatures reached 24.9C in Porthmadog, North Wales, beating Sunday’s 2023 record of 24.4C in Plymouth.Scotland and Northern Ireland also recorded their highest temperatures of the year so far at 24.4 in Tyndrum, Stirling, and 24.5C in Castlederg, Co Tyrone, the Met Office says.
Met Éireann said they “have provisionally recorded the highest air temperature so far this year” with 25.0C reported at their automatic station in Inagh, Co Clare and 24.7C at their manned station in Shannon Airport, Co Clare. Today’s sunshine did not, however, reach the all-time record breaking highs of 31.3C on July 21 last year. That was a year for record breakers with Ballywatticock seeing 31.2C just four days previously.
The rest of this week looks like it’s going to be equally fine, if not quite reaching the highs of today.
