NHL GMs have proposed a new rule that will force players who lose their helmets in a game to immediately return to the bench.
NHL GMs have drafted a new rule on players losing their helmet having to immediately go to the bench. Will have to go through competition committee and board of governors for approval. NHL is also looking at making helmets mandatory in warmups.Currently, players who lose their helmets are allowed to finish their shift without it.
The rule will have to be approved by the NHL’s competition committee and board of governors before being added to the rulebook. NHL.com’s Dan Rosen that players will be given a penalty if they don’t immediately skate off the ice when their helmet comes off. Separately, the NHL is also looking into adding a rule requiring players to wear helmets during warmups.More from Sportsnet
