The committee was also satisfied that Mr Ng and Mr Tan had the"experience and ability to effectively carry out the functions and duties of the office of President".NG KOK SONG , 75, worked in the public service for 45 years, first in the Finance Ministry and then the Monetary Authority of Singapore, before becoming the chief investment officer at Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC.
This is Mr Tan’s second bid for the presidency. He was unsuccessful in his 2011 attempt, coming in last out of four candidates and losing his deposit of S$48,000 at the time.Mr Tharman meanwhile met public sector service requirements, having held office as a minister for at least three years.
