The first week of the league’s 104th season features 190 players from Alabama high schools and colleges.
The Philadelphia Eagles have the most players with Alabama football roots on their roster with 13, including 11 on the active roster. No other team has more than seven players from Alabama high schools and colleges on its active roster, but the Jacksonville Jaguars have 11 on their total roster, and the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots and New York Giants have 10 apiece.
The players include 47 defensive backs, 33 defensive linemen, 27 wide receivers, 24 offensive linemen, 22 linebackers, 13 running backs, 10 quarterbacks, six tight ends, three kickers, three punters, one fullback and one long snapper. Seventy-five of the state’s NFL contingent played at Alabama. There also are 37 from Auburn, nine from UAB, six apiece from Samford and South Alabama, three from Troy, two each from Alabama State and Jacksonville State and one apiece from Alabama A&M, North Alabama and West Alabama.
Sixty-one Alabama high schools produced 83 of the players. Hoover and Oxford have four players apiece on NFL rosters, and McGill-Toolen, Park Crossing and St. Paul’s Episcopal have three each.The players from Alabama high schools and colleges on NFL rosters for the first Sunday of the 2023 season include:
