Tributes have been pouring in from the sporting world following the sad passing of football legend Pele.The Brazilian legend’s Instagram account paid tribute to the great man himselfWidely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Pele won an astonishing three World Cups in 1958, 1962 and 1970.
The Paris Saint-German forward wrote on Instagram: “Before Pele, 10 was just a number. I’ve read this phrase somewhere, at some point.“But this sentence, beautiful, is incomplete. I would say before Pele football was just a sport. Pele has changed it all. Cristiano Ronaldo also shared a picture of him receiving an award from Pele and wrote: “My deepest condolences to all of Brazil, and in particular to the family of Mr. Edson Arantes do Nascimento.“A mere “goodbye” to the eternal King Pele will never be enough to express the pain that currently embraces the entire world of football.
“His unique talent lit up the game, and inspired football. Our thoughts are with his family, the Brazil Football Confederation and the Brazilian people.”Sir Geoff Hurst, who guided England to World Cup glory in 1966, tweeted: “I have so many memories of Pele, without doubt the best footballer I ever played against .
