News in Snider Plaza: El Molino for Mexican food, no more Montecito's

Mexican restaurant El Molino is expected to open to the left of Onward Reserve in Snider Plaza in fall 2024, in a vacant storefront, formerly Douglas Bar and Grill. The shopping center is at Hillcrest and Lovers Lane, near Southern Methodist University. It's a patchwork of restaurants and retail.

Restaurateur Hunter Pond bought out Douglas’ investors and plans to open a redesigned restaurant in its place. Pond’s company Vandelay Hospitality operates Hudson House, D.L. Mack’s, Brentwood and others in Dallas and the Park Cities.: Pond moved the Vandelay restaurant headquarters to Snider Plaza, at Hillcrest Road and Lovers Lane. Also in that complex, his company runsand East Hampton Sandwich Company.

Parking has been a hot-button issue in Snider Plaza. A lack of spaces is one of the reasons The Douglas closed, its original owner told, but it’s a complicated topic among neighbors, businessowners and customers. Some say parking is no big deal — and besides, there’s a garage that often has spots.
