The popular narrative around the past weekend’s ANC national executive committee meeting that President Cyril Ramaphosa faced a life-and-death challenge to his leadership was so off-beam that it was crazy.
Several journalists from several outlets fed the hysteria. The story went that Ramaphosa, who had set the stage to get tough on corruption at the meeting with his letter to members last weekend, had the tables turned on him and was instead fighting off calls for his resignation.
