Steady Brook’s Kelsey Hogan crossed the finished line at the 100-mile Quebec Mega Trail in the early hours of July 3 as the top women’s finisher and 18th overall. Photo courtesy Christian DionneEven with sore knees and bruised toes, Kelsey Hogan knew one thing: she was finishing the Quebec Mega Trail ultra-marathon no matter what.
“Things are hurting and tired and sore, and so for me, it's sort of acknowledging that and noting that it's happening, but also remembering, it's OK, it's normal, and I can still run with that,” said Hogan. She sees it as a test of her body and mind. “It's really quite an atmosphere, like a festival of running, to be at the base of Mont-Sainte-Anne there,” said Hogan.
“It was so well-organized and just really energizing and challenging trail from start to finish,” said Hogan.Hogan ran her first ultra-marathon in 2016 after growing up a swimmer and a triathlete on the province’s west coast. But she figures her days as a trail runner started unofficially long before then. Hogan and her family were always hiking the trails around Steady Brook when she was growing up.
