Bruno Guimaraes is returning to Tyneside for assessment by Newcastle United’s medical staff after suffering a thigh injury while on international duty with Brazil.
It is hoped that the problem is not serious, though he was deemed unfit to feature for Brazil against Tunisia on Tuesday night.The 24-year-old joins Alexander Isak in withdrawing early from international duty through injury, with the Sweden striker sustaining an as-of-yet unspecified problem last week.
Chris Wood will also return to the north-east for assessment after being forced off in the 35th minute of New Zealand’s 2-0 defeat to Australia on Sunday with a rib injury.
