New York Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie agree on bills that would make rent regulations permanent
ALBANY—Democrats reached an agreement on bills to strengthen and make permanent rent regulations affecting roughly one million apartments in New York City, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said Tuesday.
The deal was cut after direct negotiations between Ms. Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, but without Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Mr. Cuomo said Tuesday that he would sign any measure that could pass the Legislature. The Democrats control both the Assembly and Senate.
