New York Mayor Bill de Blasio signed a declaration of a heat emergency for New York City for this weekend, as temperatures rise to nearly 100 degrees Saturday and Sunday, but will feel like 110 to 111 degrees. As a result, a number of NYC events are getting cancelled for safety, now including Summerstage and Coney Island Music Festival.
Both events are stopping performances scheduled for July 20 and 21. However, SummerStage will still proceed with its planned Jody Watley show in Corporal Thompson Park on Friday night and Sunday's free SummerStage concert at the Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island with Thee NY Night Train: Soul Clap & Dance-Off Live Review and DJ Jonathan Toubin.
