Rishi Sunak will risk coordinated strikes in the autumn forcing nearly all schools in England to close if he ignores independent pay recommendations next month, unions have warned
for public sector salary increases in a bid to counter stubbornly high inflation.his number one priority and has repeatedly insisted that “massive pay awards” for public sector workers would make this goal harder to achieve.
National Education Union Joint General Secretary Kevin Courtney warned that if Mr Sunak “reneges on his position that review body advice must be adhered to, then this will simply embolden teachers to vote for further strike action”. Earlier on Monday, social care minister Helen Whately refused to say whether the Government would accept pay review recommendations, saying only that it would “consider” any advice given.
