Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Sharna Fernandez, recently presided over the official opening of the Thuthuzela Care Centre in Stellenbosch.
Thuthuzela Care Centres are renowned as one-stop facilities providing comprehensive support to victims of GBV. Operated by the National Prosecuting Authority , these centres serve as safe havens where victims can access vital services and support. Minister Fernandez spoke on the importance of collaboration in providing comprehensive care for GBV survivors.
The name ‘Thuthuzela’ – a Xhosa word meaning ‘comfort’ – is reflective of the centre’s mission to comfort and assist people impacted by violence, creating an environment of support and healing.
