A 99-year-old war veteran will meet with the Pensions Minister to call for an end to frozen State Pensions.
More than 132,000 people have signed an online petition supporting Second World War veteran Anne Puckridge’s campaign to meet with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on behalf of half a million victims of the ‘Frozen Pensions ’ scandal to discuss a resolution for those living in countries without a non-reciprocal agreement with the UK Government. However, due to a busy schedule Sir Keir Starmer is unable to meet with Mrs Puckridge, who is set to turn 100 this month.
The Prime Minister recently wrote to Mrs Puckridge declining her request for a meeting due to his schedule, but arranged a meeting with the Pensions Minister instead. “The suffering caused by this situation is real, pressing and has endured for far too long. It is for this reason that I still fully intend to meet with the many political figures who have, for their part, dedicated some of their time to speak with me personally.”
State Pension News The so-called Frozen Pensions Scandal affects 40 per cent of all British pensioners living overseas, who are denied the yearly increases to the UK State Pension due to living in ‘frozen rate’ countries such as Canada and Australia. Anne’s campaign to secure a meeting with the Prime Minister has gained a significant level of political and public backing. This includes support from Dame Joanna Lumley and 32 parliamentarians who in October signed a pledge supporting Anne’s call for a meeting with the PM.
