Cam Talbot can’t wait to wade into the fray.

“I always loved watching Hockey Night in Canada with my dad growing up and those Ottawa-Leaf games were always so much fun to watch. I’m looking forward to being a part of it.”

Talbot and other National Hockey League players were taking part in Smashfest, the annual ping-pong tournament that raises money and awareness for research into concussions and rare cancers, at the Steam Whistle Brewery. The event’s host, former NHLer Dominic Moore, was a late scratch as his wife gave birth to the couple’s child.Article content“This is such a fun event,” Talbot said. “I love coming to this. Raises money for great causes, and you get to play some ping-pong.

Also taking part was ex-Leaf Zach Hyman, who is thrilled to have goalie Jack Campbell as a teammate again with the Edmonton Oilers. “The best guy,” Hyman said. “He has earned the right to have that job. He is capable of doing it and I think he’s motivated this year to prove it over and over again.” Did Hyman watch the Stanley Cup final after the Oilers were swept in the Western Conference final by the Colorado Avalanche?“Good for him to come back from that ,” Hyman said. “He’s a battler. He’s Naz.”
