Five people were shot, including a young girl, near a parade in New Orleans on Sunday during the lead-up to Mardi Gras.
As of Monday morning, the fatality victim's identity had not been released by police.
“We were quickly able to apprehend the suspect we believe responsible for this,” Chief Deputy Hans Ganthier said.Two weapons were recovered.“This is really not something we wanted to see,” Ganthier said. “We really wanted this to be a safe Mardi Gras.” The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Department, Louisiana State Police, and the Department of Corrections also responded to the scene.How many mass killings were there in 2022, and how does that compare with other years?The superkrewe of Bacchus was temporarily halted in the 1500 block of St. Charles Avenue after the shooting.
