Home Affairs offices across South Africa will now be open longer, and on the weekend at these times to aid matric learners.

The Department of Home Affairs says that this is to help matric learners collect their IDs without disrupting their exams. With the 2024 National Senior Certificate examinations happening in just under a month, the Department of Home Affairs will extend its operating hours and open on Saturdays from 21st September to 12th October 2024 to, as it claims, prioritise the needs of matric learners.

Learners in Matric will receive priority attention during this time period, if they are heading to a Home Affairs office to receive a temporary ID, or want to collect their ID or for any other service offered by Home Affairs. While matrics will be prioritised, the opening hours on Saturday will be of benefit to anyone who is looking to get services from a Home Affairs branch but does not have time during the week. With one month left before exams, over 700 000 matric learners around the country are now well into their studies, and government services and resources are being offered to make it easier for them.
