A North Carolina community appears to have drawn online outrage after agreeing to a measure requiring the dozens of potential residents to fly the US American flag in front of their properties.

The Gastonia-based neighborhood, 1776 Gastonia, which recently finished its subdivision planning for the made-to-order homes, will be available in the coming months."We're handling the American flag like an architectural element," according to Brock Fankhauser, the owner and founder of Great American Homes."We are installing it similarly to a fixture."

According to Fankhauser, each homeowner will be provided with an American flag at move-in, and will have previously agreed to a contract to display it at the front of their residences at all times. The measure, Fankhauser said, was taken despite a resident’s association with any political party."I've also said it's very important for us to distance ourselves from any political movement, any political party, and any political figures," he said.
