Warner Bros. Pictures announced new Lord of the Rings films are in the works.
The film studio said it signed a multiyear deal to create additional movies based on the books of author J.R.R. Tolkien and go beyond what New Line Cinema already adapted for the screen in its early 2000s Lord of the Rings trilogy and 2010s The Hobbit trilogy."Twenty years ago, New Line took an unprecedented leap of faith to realize the incredible stories, characters and world of The Lord of the Rings on the big screen.
"But for all the scope and detail lovingly packed into the two trilogies, the vast, complex and dazzling universe dreamed up by J.R.R. Tolkien remains largely unexplored on film,” De Luca and Abdy added. “The opportunity to invite fans deeper into the cinematic world of Middle-earth is an honor, and we are excited to partner with Middle-earth Enterprises and Embracer on this adventure."
The details of the agreement with Swedish media company Embracer Group, which owns the rights to most of the Tolkien book’s content, have not yet been released.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER The new films follow Amazon’s TV series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which began streaming in 2022.
Warner Bros. previously announced a Lord of the Rings animated prequel, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, is also set to be released in 2024.
