\u0022Every time he would go against us, everyone would be like ‘Damn, it’s that Swanson kid again.”
“As a pitcher having to face this lineup, it has always been really tough,” Swanson said in an interview on Monday along relievers row of the Jays clubhouse at the team’s player development complex.
“Every time he would go against us, everyone would be like ‘Damn, it’s that Swanson kid again,’” Romano recalls of the 29-year-old North Dakota native, who was traded from the Yankees system to Seattle in the deal that sent Canadian James Paxton to the Bronx. “I see a professional, number one,” said Jays pitching coach Pete Walker when asked to describe the new addition. “He knows what he is and goes about his business, but he’s someone who has a major league track record. He’s had some success and he’s figured out who he is as a pitcher.”
Swanson admits he was shocked to learn he was dealt to the Jays less than six weeks after the Mariners had swept his new team away in a two-game wild-card series at the Rogers Centre. But he quickly pivoted to positivity given his long-standing impressions of the Jays upward path. So far, it’s been a feeling out process in terms of Swanson flashing early signs of his stuff and the Jays getting up to speed on their new asset.Article content
